Plot

Presented by Gerd Baltus, the film offers an entertaining and explicit portrayal of the history of sex throughout human history. ” Come On, My Dearest Little Bird” purports to be a treatise on the development of human desires over the centuries. The depictions of sexual behavior in each era are claimed to be scientifically documented. In total, twelve epochs are covered in the film’s exploration of sexual history.

For example, a blonde couple frolics through the Germanic undergrowth. We are told that the lovemaking of our ancestors was rough, but affectionate and free from any false modesty, until the first Christian missionaries set new moral standards. Since then – so it is insinuated – people have had a “broken relationship” with their instincts.

These are followed by sensual-romantic scenes from the age of courtly love , excerpts of sexual greed in the Middle Ages with its bathing games, insights into the sex-hostile morality of the time of the witch hunts , as well as scenes of the sensual intoxication of the Renaissance and the Rococo, characterized by frivolity and lust .

Then, as the following episodes show, the 19th century began with its repressed sexual morality, followed by the modern era, the 20th century, with obligatory sexuality during the time of fascism and the subsequent sexual revolution – including consumer sex and sexual ideology
